The Approach

Strategy first. Applications second.

Most nonprofits are not short on mission. They are short on time. Grant work gets squeezed between board meetings, program delivery, and the hundred other things a small team is carrying. Opportunities get missed, and funders who may have been a great fit never have the chance to hear the full story. North Point Grants exists to close that gap, helping you approach grants as a strategy rather than a scramble.

First

Project Planning

Every engagement begins with a structured planning process that clarifies your goals, capacity, timeline, and the story your organization is ready to tell funders.

Then

Funding Strategy

You receive a written roadmap: researched prospects matched to your mission, recommended ask levels, sequencing, and the relationships worth cultivating first.

Ongoing

Pursuit and Stewardship

From there, I write, submit, and manage the pipeline with you, including funder outreach, reporting, and the follow-through that turns one grant into a lasting partnership.

The strongest grant strategies are built on relationships, not just applications. That's why every engagement includes thoughtful funder outreach and long-term stewardship, not simply writing proposals.

Services

One partner across the full funding lifecycle.

As a Certified Grant Writer and Funding Strategist with a communications career spanning the U.S. Department of Justice, federal public affairs, statewide campaigns, and national media relations, I bring funder-side instincts to every engagement. Work together on a standalone funding strategy or through a full retainer partnership across your development program.

Funding Strategy

A clear, prioritized plan for foundation, corporate, and community funding, built around your organization's real capacity and goals.

Prospect Research

Deep research into foundations, corporate giving programs, and major donors, with attention to fit, timing, and the connections you already have.

Grant Writing

Compelling, complete, on-deadline proposals, letters of inquiry, and reports, written in your organization's voice and backed by strong data.

Campaign and Communications Support

Messaging guides, case statements, sponsorship materials, and donor communications for capital campaigns and major fundraising initiatives.

Who I Work With

Nonprofits doing essential work close to home.

North Point Grants serves organizations across western Wisconsin and the Twin Cities metro, with deep roots in Hudson. Clients span youth recreation, animal welfare, human services, and community development, and they share one thing: a mission worth funding and a team ready to grow.

  • Organizations planning a capital campaign or major initiative
  • Small teams without a dedicated grant writer on staff
  • Established nonprofits ready to diversify their funding
  • Boards that want a strategy before the next application

Behind every grant application is a mission worth believing in. I've found that the organizations making the biggest difference are often the ones with the least time and capacity to pursue funding. That's why I do this work. I help mission-driven organizations secure the funding they need so they can focus on changing lives.

About

Kim Kluge, Founder

Before founding North Point Grants, Kim spent her career where communications carried real stakes: the U.S. Department of Justice, the National Nuclear Security Administration, the Wisconsin Governor's press office, statewide campaigns, and corporate public relations at U.S. Bancorp. Along the way she worked with virtually every major national and international media outlet, from The Wall Street Journal and BusinessWeek to CNBC and ABC News, and with press bureaus across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

She served as an agency spokesperson to media around the world, handled crisis communications, briefed senior officials, and held a high level national security clearance. That training shows up in her client work: sharp writing, meticulous research, and strategy that holds up under scrutiny.

Then she stepped away to raise her three children. Those years taught a different set of skills that turned out to matter just as much: real listening, steady patience, and the ability to hold many moving pieces without losing sight of the one that matters most.

North Point Grants is where those two chapters come together. Clients get a consultant who is strategic and meticulous, and who understands that behind every grant application is a real program serving real people.

Kim holds Grant Writing and Funding Strategist Certifications earned through the Global Grant Writers Collective and is a University of Wisconsin-Madison graduate. She lives and works in Hudson, Wisconsin.
